Constitution of the Drengr

Directly quoted from the "Constitution of the Jomsborgelag" of the Jomsvikings.

  1. Members of the Jomsborgelag hold the rank of Dreng, and must be combatant.

  2. Leaders within the Jomsborgelag hold the officer ship of Styrsman. Styrsmen swear loyalty and obedience to the Jarl of the Jomsvikings, who is the commander of the Jomsborgelag. The Jarl of the Jomsvikings is answerable to the Council of Jomsvikings.

  3. Drengr swear loyalty to the Jarl of the Jomsvikings, and to the Banner of the Jomsborgelag. They also swear obedience to their Styrsman,

  4. Drengr not under the command of a Styrsman are under the direct control of the Jarl of the Jomsvikings.

  5. Both Styrsmen and Drengr should aspire to promotion to the rank of Jomsviking.

  6. Styrsmen only have command over those Drengr which they have been specifically given control over. They do not have command over other Drengr, unless ordered to have such command by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings.

  7. It is the duty of a Styrsman to resolve a dispute between two of his Drengr. If he is unable to resolve the dispute it shall be resolved by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings. If a Dreng under the command of a Styrsman has a dispute with a Dreng under the command of a different Styrsman both Styrsmen will attempt to resolve the dispute. If they cannot resolve the dispute it shall be resolved by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings.

  8. If a Dreng has a dispute with a Jomsviking it shall be resolved by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings.

  9. If a Dreng has a dispute with a Gestir of The Household his Styrsman, and the Styrsman of The Household will attempt to resolve the dispute. If they are unable to resolve the dispute it shall be resolved by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings.

  10. A Styrsman retains control over his Drengr on the battlefield unless otherwise ordered by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings or his designated representative. If the Jarl of the Jomsvikings is not present the Jomsvikings will elect a battle captain, unless one has already been appointed by the Jarl of the Jomsvikings. No other Jomsviking or Dreng may command the Styrsman or his Drengr, except if they are carrying out the duties of an officer ship which they hold.

  11. Styrsmen and Drengr of the Jomsborgelag will be trained in the Jomsviking Fighting System, with emphasis on skill and safety.

  12. No political lobbying of any kind will be tolerated within the Jomsborgelag. Such lobbying may result in expulsion.

  13. Any member bringing disrepute on the Jomsborgelag may be expelled.
